THE DOCTOR’S REPORT    May 24, 2008
ANDREW HARRIS: We are very close in making the presentations. Be watching the news and this publication. Thank you to those that have kept this legacy alive.
TRIAL UPDATE: As you are aware the jury has been selected and opening arguments began this past Tuesday. The government presented its argument that took a period of about one hour. They told their case first and it never ceases to amaze me how some people took it almost for the Gospel. Realizing the misinformation given by the government and the slant they put upon it, The Bible says that he that tells his case first always appears right, but we are cautioned to hear the sum of the matter for the truth lies somewhere in between. Another observation is that the front part of the courtroom was heavily populated with friends and members of the prosecution. We call that stacking the deck. It is sad to think that this crack prosecution team could not find any violations in the Jena Six matter, but yet they can present a case against two African American judges. Racism at its fullest.  Facts that came out in the opening arguments were that it is legal for a judge to reduce a bond, and also legal for a juvenile judge to release a juvenile hold on an adult. If you have not been down to the Courthouse, take the time and plan your schedule. There use to be an old saying that it’s them this time. Will it be you the next?
THE ENERGY CRISIS: At present there are young Caucasian men walking around downtown Shreveport giving out money hand over fist for leasing land to explore for natural gas. As of this writing, $880 million dollars has been targeted for this region. It is important that this does not become a one-sided, one-ethnicity transaction. Those of you that have land or relatives with land, make sure you encourage your relatives not to jump for the first deal. As of this writing, anywhere from $8000-12,000 an acre is being given up front and twenty five percent of the extraction royalty is being given. Anything less is not a sound decision. We are herein asking that the drilling companies and oil moguls to be fair. Hire some young African Americans to work and enjoy some of these benefits. It is wrong to come into a region and play the race card.
THE HOLLYWOOD SCENE: The movie industry is growing leaps and bounds, the money generated has clearly overshadowed the money made by the casinos, people are working, and it appears that we have turned the corner on dependency on the casinos. Whoever the individuals are, we say you are doing a good job. Keep it going.  Our only concern is that, in a city this size, we don’t have any African American talent agents to help populate these movies. Those of you reading this that are educators and entrepreneur-minded persons should consider contacting agencies on the West Coast to determine what is necessary to establish an agency that at least presents an option. Most recently we toured one of the movie sites and we noticed the individuals work assignments. We know we can do better. Within the next thirty days we will personally submit to you our findings on if things have started to change.
LOUISIANA 4TH CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT: Four of the major planks in our platform deal with the war, economy, energy, and the veteran’s problems. Taking the last one first, the veteran problems need addressing. We have gone to Overton Brooks and noticed that there is a need for race relationship training. Examining the record of that institution clearly reveals to us that something is wrong out there. Veterans must sit long extended periods of time and the staff attitudes are horrible toward answering questions. Recently I questioned a physician coming out of an office and he acted as if I was not talking to him. I had to raise my voice to let him know I was addressing him. Letters are being sent out now to the Congressional Veterans Affairs office to address the shameful treatment being extended at this facility. The energy crisis- desperation is in the atmosphere. The Haynesville Shale was always here, but companies were refusing to drill that 13,000 feet depth because of some agreement with the government. America, as powerful as it is, should never find itself in desperation. The economy – after a recession, depression comes in. it is no secret that the Republicans are jumping out of their seats in Congress and the Senate because they know they have just about finished raping this economy. It will take us fifty years to come out of this mess and no one has said anything to the two oilmen that sit in the White House. Didn’t you find it off that Joe Lieberman went to Saudi Arabia with John McCain? The war problem - as mentioned two years ago, the ideal plan for American in Iraq would be to pull our troops back, adopt a Marshall plan, and not put our troops in harms way. The Marshall plan actually will work. The majority of those troops should be brought home and an infusion of troops in Afghanistan in the mountain regions should be implemented. We are America. We don’t have fear and we don’t fear fear. Here you have it. This is how we, as a nation, can become not just nation builders but empower our nation to be respected, adored, and admired around this world. Register to vote. Your vote makes the difference and it is valuable to change, change, change.

MR. ANDREW HARRIS: Plans are nearly complete for the Andrew Harris Journalism Scholarship award. If your son or daughter attends Booker T. Washington and is graduating and has taken advantage of the journalism program, please have the student write a brief position paper on why they desire to be in journalism. Please send all entries to P. O. Box 52525, Shreveport, LA 71135 by May 22, 2008.
THE SHOOTING INCIDENT: The recent Colortyme burglary on Shreveport Barksdale Highway clearly opens up a very suspicious reporting. The officer involved has used what is now known as the “Sean Bell” excuse on two different occasions in which young African American males were brutally killed. That excuse states that the officer was in fear of his life and therefore had to use excessive force to counteract the force been encountered. In the first case in the Cedar Grove area, although the officer had shot out the back window of the vehicle that the late Mr. Pineset was riding in, an eyewitness claimed that there were shots fired while the individual was on the ground. The reporting news media tried to justify it by telling us that Mr. Pineset had shot at the officer and had used his car as a weapon. The sad part about it is that we fell for it and no one asked why. Meeting with the mother lately, hearing the information she has, clearly indicated that an out-of-control individual took her son’s life. This same officer most recently watched an individual act suspiciously and then witnessed him breaking a window, never once confronting him, but waited until this person went inside a store, came out with a television, put the TV in an automobile, and began to leave. When the officer decided to confront him, there was no video camera just like the first time, no voice pack, nothing to substantiate what he report, but claiming that the car hit his leg again (either he has a bionic leg or he thinks we are very naïve), firing into the windshield, striking the young man in the wrists (defensive action), and when the car passes by him he shoots and hits the individual twice again: once in the shoulder and once in the back of the head. Clearly there was no threat because there was no statement that the driver was backing up. You don’t have to go to police academy to understand when something is wrong, that’s a God given gift to those that will hear that inward voice. We are herein asking that the Police Department and any agency that desires to see truth prevail handle a full investigation. As a Christian I cannot stand by and see actions that clearly indicate something is mighty wrong here.
THE WILLIE LYNCH SYNDROME: Most recently I met with some African American leaders and in our conversations they began to tell me how bigots on the other side dislike me, and how African Americans that are living in fear of what the bigots might say to them are mostly in agreement with them. How sad in 2008 that we would allow the Willie Lynch syndrome to still affect the hearts and minds of civilized people. Not dismayed, I am always reminded of men like Dr. King, who was not liked by that group as well, and that even some of his own people said he was a troublemaker. And as you are reading this, some of your ancestors are part of that group. For which of the works do you condemn me? For declaring that injustice should not prevail? Maybe because I said we are all equal in God’s sight? Or maybe because I said in the workplace, there should be no disparity in the financial arena. If these offended you, then shame on you. Because we walk by faith and not by sight, we will continue to do the works that Jesus did, and to those that benefit we continue to encourage you to reach back and help somebody else because that’s the message of the Gospel.
HAVE WE FALLEN ASLEEP JUST BECAUSE WE HAVE SOME GAINS?: Most recently a new City Marshal was installed on an interim basis, and I felt good because Shreveport had turned the corner yet again. Being near 60, I was not happy just for myself but for the generations that are coming up, White, Black, and Brown, and all other ethnicities because it lets us know that there is still such a thing as hope. A Black mayor, Black police chief, Black interim City Marshal, clearly gives hope and inspires those that thought they could never succeed because of an imagery that has been shown them the majority of their lives. There is a lot of work to be done and those who are prepared need to step up and not sit back. Can we not agree that Shreveport is becoming more and more progressive when the talents of all sectors are brought forth? I talk to Caucasian Americans regularly and they too know and realize that we have made a tremendous turn. Keep up the good work Shreveport and Northwest Louisiana. God is well pleased.
IT’S ABOUT THE WAR AND THE ECONOMY: the Republican Party again is being represented without one African American in their delegations. Yet we have African Americans who are Democrats beating Republicans into the voting booths to support Republicans, knowing that they are not even represented in their delegations. When will you ever learn? You do good to those who do good to you and you pray for those that abuse you. This upcoming election will prove to be the greatest in the history of Northwest Louisiana. The last time out we got 22,000 plus votes. This time we believe we are going to receive 70,000. You need to be a part. Send your political donations to P. O. Box 52525, Shreveport, LA 71135. Specify, or let us know it is for the campaign. We need your help. I have always stood up for righteousness and stood against injustice no matter how unfashionable it was. And just as I stand up for that, I also stand up for you now. Send me to Washington and let’s end this senseless war and fix this economy. It’s our duty to do right.
